For many professional bass fishing anglers, their office is a 20+ foot bass boat. It has been this way for years, but with kayak bass fishing on the rise, a new wave of anglers are stepping into the professional scene. This has caught the attention of some bass boat anglers and they are now jumping into kayaks to prove they don’t need the fiberglass rig to get the job done!
Dave Lefebre Enters A KBF Tournament On Lake Erie
For Dave, the rise of professional kayak bass fishing has been incredibly interesting to follow. While fishing on the Elite series, Dave traveled and fished all over the country in his Ranger Z520L Comanche. When he saw the famous kayak bass fishing series, the KBF, was coming to his backyard for a tournament, he began his journey into the kayak fishing world. The September 15th Northeastern Open on Lake Erie was full of hammers and Dave knew he would have to come prepared.
Fishing The KBF Through Adversity And High Wind Speed
Dave’s first day on the water was full of adversity. First thing in the morning, Dave lost his cell phone. Not long after that, Dave broke a cable on his Torqeedo trolling motor which forced him off the water for about an hour and a half. After all of this, Dave finally started catching some fish and the first fish he submitted was measured incorrectly. Through all of this adversity, Dave stayed calm and confident. Dave was able to finally catch some solid fish and keep himself in the running after the first day.
With high winds and all of the adversity he was facing, he was focused on using everything he learned in pre-fish to his advantage. Going into the second day, he was confident that he was going to be able to target the right baitfish with his Gary Yamamoto Shad Shape worm and put some solid fish in his Bonafide. With all of the right gear and mindset, Dave brought home the win and a $10,000 check!
