Lake Guntersville Fishing is the mecca of big southern Largemouth Bass
The drive from Decatur Georgia to Guntersville Lake, Alabama was packed full of beautiful scenery of the Tennessee River, quaint towns, and overlooks. We made some stops to soak it in, but the entire drive out hearts were on the next location Lake Guntersville. We consider ourselves “Bass Heads” and this is the mecca of big southern Largemouth Bass giants.
Throwing Rapala DT 6 crankbait with Grant Labriola. Oh, and lots of catching…
We rolled into Guntersville around 9 am as Grant Labriola was rolling up in this Triton Bass boat. Grant had been on Guntersville for two days now fishing and enjoying his vacation. We jumped on the boat and motored up to some ledges to throw Rapala DT 6 crankbaits. It wasn’t long until these crankbaits started producing. We were catching good sized Bass on a bait I’m not extremely confident in throwing.
We pulled over for a quick lunch break at a little bait and tackle shop that also served great food. The nice lady gave us a run down on Guntersville and mentioned the number of fishermen that run out of their ramp for fun fishing and tournaments. We got recharged on chicken fingers then hit the water for the afternoon.
Unlike the Rocky Fork Ham Sandwiches, this lunch stop was awesome!
We’re from the north… it’s hot down here!
We spent the afternoon continuing to find ledges and throw crankbaits on them. Guntersville continued to produce good sizes and numbers. We totaled 15 Largemouth Bass for the day.

Check out the ledge locations and all my catches on the ANGLR trip profile
You can see all the catches in my ANGLR trip profile and see the ledges we were fishing. We snapped some pictures, released the fish, and headed back to the boat ramp.
We now have a five-hour drive to our next Tour stop on Ross Barrnett in Mississippi.
Driving to Mississippi and of course it was storming the whole way. Having two kayaks strapped to the top made the drive that much more interesting. Regardless, we took it slow and made it to the hotel around 11pm.
We charged up the camera gear, uploaded the content from Guntersville, and hit the sack to wake up in the a.m. to fish Ross R Barnett Reservoir with Jeff Collum for more southern giant Bass.
Stay tuned. Next blog hits tomorrow.
