Writing Guidelines

Successful contributions are comprehensive posts that teach our readers something new about fishing. While we tend to skew toward content about fishing intelligence (using data to catch more fish), we’re also interested in publishing any topic that anglers care about, which includes things like tips, locations, techniques, current industry trends, gear, outdoor lifestyle, gear, and more.

We also look for a few things in everything we publish:

  • Original content, compelling arguments, and high-quality writing. We will not republish anything that’s been published elsewhere.
  • Voice. We’re certain and definitive without being snobbish or bombastic. Our expertise is always evident, but in a way that’s still fun and engaging. We welcome all true fishing enthusiasts, whether they’re old hands or just starting out.
  • Topics. All articles will fall into at least one of the following five categories: outdoor lifestyle, fishing new, fishing improvement, fishing intelligence, or ANGLR products.
  • Include headings to organize the content.
  • Articles are minimum of 1,000 words in length.
  • No more than 2 outbound links to your own website in the body of the post.
  • We will need a headshot, bio, and links to any social networks or websites you would want to include in your author bio section.
  • Willingness to share the article once it’s published across your networks – social media, email, etc.
  • Teach first. Our goal is to help other anglers learn how to catch more fish, not be an advertorial.
The Program

Once accepted, as an ANGLR Expert you will receive an email containing your 25% discount code. We often reach out to do a an initial discovery call to just say hi, welcome you and get to know you. We also often setup an initial audio interview call to get things started. These are recorded and turned into Podcast episodes and re-purposed into text form blog posts for you by the ANGLR team. You will also receive email alerts based on the species and fishing methods you identified in your application when new titles are available. It’s first come first serve. If you want to write on the topic, submit a pitch, win the pitch, and the article is yours to write. We limit two articles per expert, per tag (species/method), per month.

You can pitch us other ideas for articles at any time once you’re an ANGLR Expert.

When a pitch is approved, a deadline will be set for the completed draft. When it’s completed, please send over:

  • A Google Doc with the completed draft
  • Image files (at least 1000px wide) with attribution
  • Short author bio, headshot, and social links including a maximum of one anchor text link to your own website.
Fine Print
  • Submissions must meet the ANGLR Expert team’s quality standards in order to get published.
  • We cannot allow you to republish your guest post to your own blog, Medium, or any other site known to man.
  • The ANGLR editorial team reserves the right to edit and adapt your content and title as we see fit, and update it in the future for accuracy and comprehensiveness.
  • ANGLR reserves the right to include calls-to-action and links to ANGLR content, including but not limited to blog posts, email newsletters, ebooks, and other downloadable content.
  • We’re flattered you want to write for us, but to preserve our credibility, we ask contributors have some experience in angling, or anything related to the fishing industry. Inquiries from general freelancers will not be considered.
